With over 32 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, Mr. Wanyama has demonstrated outstanding leadership. He has also committed himself to improving educational standards and quality assurance in research across Kenya and beyond. His roles include Chairman of the Kenya National Man and Biosphere Committee and UNESCO Volunteer Ecosystem Analyst Expert. These positions highlight his commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Currently, Mr. Wanyama serves as a resident consultant at the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS). In this role, he plays a crucial part in resource mobilization for the Technology Scaling and Commercialization Centre. His leadership across various positions highlights his ability to foster innovation and sustainability in science and technology.

Contributions to Education and Environmental Stewardship

Mr. Wanyama’s career includes key leadership roles that have shaped educational policies and practices. From February 2020 to July 2022, he served as the Director of Research, Accreditation, and Quality Assurance at the National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI). He was responsible for regulating and ensuring quality in research across Kenya. Additionally, he advised national and county governments on science and technology policies. He also developed strategic priorities for scientific and technological innovation that aligned with Kenya’s economic and social goals.

Before his role at NACOSTI, Mr. Wanyama served as Senior Assistant Secretary General at the Kenya National Commission for UNESCO (KNATCOM) for nine years. During this time, he led initiatives like the UNESCO Category 2 Regional Centre on Groundwater, Education, Training, and Research. His advocacy for environmental conservation included designating Mt. Elgon as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and extending the Mt. Kenya World Heritage Site.

Academic Excellence and Ongoing Research

Mr. Wanyama’s academic credentials include a Master of Science degree in Ecosystems Analysis and ongoing PhD studies in Environmental Policy. His educational background has given him a strong understanding of the sciences. This helps him navigate complex educational and environmental challenges effectively. His experience as a high school Biology and Chemistry teacher has also sharpened his communication and teaching skills.

Throughout his career, Mr. Wanyama has actively participated in both national and international conferences. He has consistently represented Kenya on various platforms and held several prestigious positions. For instance, he has been a member of the Governing Council of the African Centre for Technology Studies and served as Secretary to the African Regional Bioethics Committees. Moreover, his extensive network of professional relationships highlights his dedication to fostering collaboration in education, research, and environmental sustainability.
