Dr. Dinesh Shukla, Chancellor and Founding President of American International University West Africa (AIUWA), has been awarded the prestigious Excellence in Education Award by the International Association for Quality Assurance in Pre-Tertiary and Higher Education (QAHE). This recognition celebrates Dr. Shukla’s extraordinary contributions to transforming the educational landscape in Africa and his unwavering commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education.

Dr. Shukla’s journey is a testament to resilience, determination, and service. From taking over a bankrupt hospital in Texas and turning it into a vital community resource to founding AIUWA in The Gambia, his career has been marked by a dedication to uplifting underserved populations. AIUWA, which started with just six students, now serves over 2,000, offering diverse programs to meet the educational and healthcare needs of African society.

QAHE recognizes Dr. Shukla’s visionary leadership in establishing state-of-the-art facilities, offering scholarship programs, and prioritizing ethical education. His commitment to social equity is evident in AIUWA’s mission, ensuring opportunities are available to all, regardless of socioeconomic background. Despite facing personal adversity, including a late-stage cancer diagnosis, Dr. Shukla remained steadfast in his mission, continuing to travel to Africa and ensuring AIUWA’s development stayed on course. Dr. Shukla’s vision extends beyond AIUWA, with plans to establish five universities across five African regions by 2028, impacting 100,000 students. His numerous accolades, including recognition from the biographer of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and an appointment to The Gambian President’s Board of Directors for the National Accreditation and Quality Assurance Authority, reflect the deep and lasting impact of his work.
